Following discussion on the Herjolfsnes Challenge, it was agreed that it would be useful to have a repository of the errors, inconsistencies and unclear statements in Woven Into the Earth and Medieval Garments Reconstructed, the two reference books about garments from Herjolfsnes, Greenland. These have been collated by members of the Herjolfsnes Challenge.
This blog post deals with errors that directly relate to Norlund 63 (aka D10594). As more errors are found, they will be added to this repository. If you have noticed any, please let us know and we will add them.
All page numbers refer to the English-language versions of either Woven Into the Earth (WitE-E) or Medieval Garments Reconstructed (MGR-E). When the Danish-language versions are referred to, they will be denoted as WitE-D (i.e. Som syet til jorden) and MGR-D (i.e. Nordbomønstre).

Herjolfsnes Errors: Introductory chapters
Following discussion on the Herjolfsnes Challenge, it was agreed that it would be useful to have a repository of the errors, inconsistencies and unclear statements in Woven Into the Earth and Medieval Garments Reconstructed, the two reference books about garments from Herjolfsnes, Greenland. These have been collated by members of the Herjolfsnes Challenge.
This blog post deals with errors in the introductory chapters - i.e. all of Woven Into the Earth except the catalogue of finds and Chapters 1-3 of Medieval Garments Reconstructed. As more errors are found, they will be added to this repository. If you have noticed any, please let us know and we will add them.

Distaff spinning hints & tips: drafting
One of the parts of distaff spinning that consistently gets asked about on the Evangelical Church of Distaff Spinning community is about drafting. It does take a bit of getting used to, trying to learn how to draft between distaff and hand rather than between your two hands. So, this weekend my friend took a bit of video which I hope will help you.

Distaff spinning hints & tips: the half-hitch
There have been some questions recently from newbies on the Evangelical Church of Distaff Spinning page, so I thought I'd do some hints and tips. This first one is about the half-hitch, a common source of concern given that many of extant medieval spindle sticks do not have a notch or hook at the tip to hold the half-hitch in place.
Here are my hints and tips as to how to get a strong, functional half-hitch in place easily every time despite using a notch-less spindle.

What did I do in 2017?
It seems like 2017 has whisked by, barely stopping on its way! It's been a rather tumultuous one for me, with crazy job commitments, career changes and health problems meaning I haven't done anywhere near as much historical crafting as I would have liked. However, there have been a couple of things that I have managed, although several of these haven't featured on this blog.
So, to focus on the positives, without further ado, here is my 2017 of crafting.
